Trains

Eurostar operates its well known ‘ski trains’ from London St Pancras (from Nov 2007) or Ashford International to Bourg St Maurice every Friday/Saturday during the season. Several options are available, including the disco train and overnight services with reclining seats or couchettes.

We found the direct Eurostar ‘ski’ trains really expensive but an excellent alternative is to book Eurostar to Paris and then book separately onward to Bourg St Maurice. That way, you can choose fast day trains or the overnight sleepers which run every night of the week. You can also select cheaper Eurostar fares by picking off-peak times/days.

Excellent on-line booking with lots of options can be found at www.raileurope.co.uk

Another option is to go to Calais by ferry from Dover as a foot passenger and then on to Paris by train. A three day Inter-Rail one country pass is a cheap option for the trains particularly if you’re under 25. It costs £92 and would cover the return journey as well. This pass does not however include Eurostar.
